Its not that it hasn't worked, its that you've missed the window of time where the command can be registered. I too have a 2nd hand computer and do not know the original password so it won't let me do a factory restore through the Alt+F10 method. I launched the question to the Acer technical support and it looks like I would need to have the recovery CD because the partition where the OS is has been corrupted. To do this you'll have to hit the 'D' key followed by the 'L' key.
